The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) reinforced its commitment to strengthening industrial diplomacy on the global stage through a working visit by the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, to Moscow, Russia, on December 8, 2025. The visit focused on accelerating the signing of several cooperative agreements or Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) currently being established between the two countries.

"Industrial cooperation between Indonesia and Russia is a key foundation of efforts to elevate domestic industrial competitiveness to a global level. This initiative also marks our commitment to strengthening relations with a strategic partner country oriented toward long-term collaboration," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in his statement in Moscow (8/12).

As part of the visit's agenda, the Minister of Industry attended a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Anton Alikhanov. This opportunity addressed not only the acceleration of finalising the MoUs but also several other potential collaborations that could be developed by both nations.

The meeting represents an important momentum in strengthening industrial relations between the two countries. The commitment to accelerate the completion of the MoUs is a crucial step in reinforcing sustainable cooperation.

"Industrial cooperation between Indonesia and Russia is entering a new, more concrete, and targeted chapter. We discussed various bilateral topics, including strengthening cooperation in manufacturing, halal products, unmanned technologies, and others. The signing and finalisation of these MoUs will serve as an important foundation for expanding technological collaboration, research, and enhancing national industrial competitiveness," the Minister of Industry said.

One of the primary achievements of this meeting was the agreement on two cooperation pacts, namely the MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Scientific Research on the Safe Use of Chrysotile Asbestos and the MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Shipbuilding.

The MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Shipbuilding governs partnership in the shipyard industry. Through this agreement, the Minister of Industry hopes the collaboration will provide benefits and a significant contribution to the development of the shipbuilding industry in both Indonesia and Russia.

Meanwhile, the MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Scientific Research on the Safe Use of Chrysotile Asbestos involves collaboration in scientific research regarding the safe use of chrysotile. As part of this cooperation, two laboratory personnel from Indonesia completed training supported by the Russian Government in September 2024.

The Minister of Industry emphasized that this cooperation will yield significant benefits for the development of the manufacturing sector and industrial human resources, as well as open wider doors of collaboration between Indonesia and Russia.

Furthermore, this bilateral meeting also reviewed the follow-up of the outcomes of the Joint Indonesia-Russia Commission Meeting, particularly within the Working Group on Trade, Investment, and Industry. The Minister of Industry hopes concrete actions can soon be realized across several issues, including industry, halal supply chains, trade, logistics, standardization and certification, agriculture, and finance.

The Minister of Industry also expressed support for the development of the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competences (BCIC). "Indonesia fully supports the collaboration established with Russia in various international forums, one of which is the BCIC, which has the potential to boost industrial digitalization, 'new mobility' technologies, unmanned transport systems, human resource development, SME growth, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and bio-industry," the Minister said.

The Ministry of Industry believes that program harmonization through this cooperation will support Indonesia's readiness to showcase its best industrial potential at INNOPROM 2026, as well as expand opportunities for cross-sector industrial cooperation. Collaboration is also projected to strengthen market access, improve supply chains, and accelerate industrial transformation toward a more modern, competitive, and sustainable direction.

"With an increasing spirit of collaboration, we are optimistic that industrial relations with Russia will grow stronger and contribute positively to inclusive and sustainable economic growth for both countries," the Minister said.

Previously, diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia, which have spanned 75 years, showed significant strengthening through a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin. The bilateral meeting took place in June 2025 and opened new avenues for cooperation in industry, trade, and investment. "This year we celebrate 75 years of bilateral relations with a long historical value, and we hope that cooperation between Indonesia and Russia will grow even stronger in the future. We also welcome the planned visit of President Vladimir Putin to Jakarta to solidify the collaboration between our two nations," concluded the Minister.
