Indonesia–Russia Business Forum Strengthens Industrial Collaboration Ahead of INNOPROM 2026
MAY 18, 2026
The Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen its strategic partnership with the Russian Federation by holding the Indonesia–Russia Business Forum and Business Matching in Moscow. This event is an important part of Indonesia's preparations as a Partner Country for INNOPROM 2026, as well as a follow-up to the active involvement of both countries in industrial cooperation under the BRICS Forum.
"Indonesia and the Russian Federation have built a long-term relationship based on mutual respect and constructive dialogue, which has evolved from political cooperation into concrete collaboration in the fields of industry, trade, technology, and education," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Moscow on Monday (9/12).
The Minister of Industry stated that this forum not only strengthens the industrial relations between the two countries, but also serves as a platform to align the strategic agenda built throughout 2025, including the BRICS Industry Ministers Meeting in Brasilia and technical preparations ahead of INNOPROM 2026. According to the Minister, this series of activities demonstrates Indonesia's determination to play a greater role in the global industrial architecture.
Relations between Indonesia and Russia continue to show significant strengthening. The bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin in June 2025 in St. Petersburg opened new opportunities for deepening industrial, trade, and investment cooperation. Indonesia also welcomes the planned return visit of President Putin to Jakarta, which is projected to strengthen industrial collaboration between the two countries.
The Minister of Industry emphasized that the economic development of both countries shows a strong foundation for increased cooperation. In 2024, total non-oil and gas bilateral trade reached USD 3.9 billion, an increase of 18.69% since 2020. By October 2025, that value rose again to USD 4.04 billion, while Russian investment in Indonesia in 2024 was recorded at USD 262.7 million. According to the Minister, this data is an indicator that the potential for industrial collaboration can be significantly increased.
In this forum, the Ministry of Industry stated that Indonesia and Russia align their agendas on two main platforms, namely INNOPROM 2026 and the BRICS Forum. Through INNOPROM, Indonesia will showcase national manufacturing capabilities on the global industrial stage, while bringing together industrial players from both countries to open concrete collaboration opportunities. Meanwhile, through BRICS, Indonesia supports the strengthening of cooperation in industrial digital transformation, human resource development, new mobility technology, artificial intelligence, and the green economy through the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competences (BCIC), which is considered highly relevant to Indonesia's industrial transformation needs.
One of the important achievements in this Business Matching was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Indonesian Industrial Estates Association (HKI) with two Russian strategic partners, namely the Association of Industrial Parks of Russia (AIP) and the Foreign Trade Centre (FTC).
The MoU covers strengthening cooperation in the development of industrial estates, exchanging investment information, increasing industrial zone management capacity, and exploring co-development projects between Indonesian and Russian industrial players. This signing becomes a new foundation for supply chain integration and investment expansion through connectivity between the industrial estates of the two countries.
In addition, several other strategic cooperations are being finalized, including an MoU on Industrial Cooperation, research collaboration on the safe use of chrysotile, and strengthening cooperation in the shipbuilding sector. These documents are expected to provide a long-term direction for strengthening the industrial structure and increasing the production capacity of both countries.
The Minister of Industry concluded his remarks by inviting forum participants to use this opportunity as a momentum to expand networks, deepen business dialogue, and promote mutually beneficial industrial collaboration. "Indonesia is ready to work more closely with Russian partners to achieve inclusive, sustainable, and globally competitive industrial growth," he said.
