Indonesia Showcases the Strength of Its Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries at INNOPROM 2026, Strengthening the Foundation for Industrial Cooperation with the Eurasian Region
JULY 5, 2026
Amid the growing need for global industrial collaboration, Indonesia is showcasing the potential of its chemical and pharmaceutical industries at INNOPROM 2026, the largest industrial exhibition in the Eurasian region. As the Official Partner Country, Indonesia is presenting six industry players that represent the strength of the country's chemical industry value chain, ranging from specialty chemicals, fertilizers, industrial glass, and flexible packaging to ceramics and plastic recycling. Their participation forms part of Indonesia's strategy to expand export markets, attract investment, and foster sustainable industrial partnerships with Russia and the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Indonesia's Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, emphasized that the chemical and pharmaceutical industry is one of the country's strategic sectors, which continues to be strengthened due to its important role in increasing the value added of Indonesia's natural resources while supporting the development of a self-reliant national industrial base. "Indonesia has significant potential in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, supported by abundant raw materials, continuously expanding production capacity, and a strong domestic market. Through INNOPROM 2026, we aim to expand our global partnership network, attract investment, and create opportunities for industrial collaboration that deliver long-term benefits for both countries," said Minister Agus in Jakarta on 30 June.
The performance of Indonesia's Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Textile Industry (IKFT) has continued to show a positive growth trend. In the first quarter of 2026, the sector recorded 4.96% growth, up from 3.34% in the same period of the previous year. The sector contributed 3.88% to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with the non-metallic mineral products industry recording the highest growth among its subsectors at 9.12%.
In terms of international trade, IKFT exports reached USD 13.23 billion during January–March 2026, an increase from USD 12.77 billion recorded during the same period in the previous year. The largest contribution came from the chemical and chemical products manufacturing subsector, which generated exports valued at USD 5.97 billion. Meanwhile, realized investment in the IKFT sector during January–March 2026 reached IDR 47.20 trillion, representing a significant increase compared with IDR 45.57 trillion recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The Director General of the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Textile Industries (IKFT), Taufiek Bawazier, stated that these achievements show that the Indonesian chemical industry is increasingly prepared to expand its market and build collaboration with global partners. "INNOPROM 2026 is the right platform to connect the capabilities of the Indonesian chemical industry with the needs of the Eurasian market. We want to open more investment opportunities, strengthen supply chains, and encourage sustainable industrial cooperation," he said.
Indonesia's relationship with Russia in the chemical sector also continues to develop. At the BRICS PartNIR 2025 forum in Xiamen, both countries discussed strengthening fertilizer industry cooperation involving several large Russian companies, such as Uralchem, Uralkali, and PhosAgro. One of the follow-ups being explored is cooperation between Pupuk Indonesia and Uralchem as a concrete step to strengthen industrial collaboration between the two countries.
According to Taufiek, Russia has a number of advantages that can complement the development of Indonesia's chemical industry, ranging from petrochemical process technology, large-scale basic chemical production capacity, to long experience in developing research-based pharmaceutical industries. Therefore, INNOPROM 2026 is expected to be a momentum to expand cooperation in the form of co-manufacturing of value-added chemical products, technology transfer, development of pharmaceutical raw materials, and investment in chemical industrial estates that are ready to operate in Indonesia.
At INNOPROM 2026, the Indonesian chemical industry sector will be represented by PT Zeus Kimiatama Indonesia, ASAKI, PT Argha Karya Prima Industry, PT Muliaglass, PT Herba Asa Nusa, the Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association, and Pupuk Indonesia. The presence of these various industry players reflects Indonesia's ability to present an increasingly complete and competitive chemical industry ecosystem.
Dara Amelia, Business Portfolio Officer at PT Pupuk Indonesia, as one of the co-exhibitors, positively welcomed Indonesia's participation in the exhibition. "Pupuk Indonesia's participation in INNOPROM 2026 is an important opportunity for us to strengthen relationships with industry partners in the Eurasian region. We hope that Indonesia's presence can open up more concrete cooperation spaces, especially in the field of fertilizer industry development and agricultural chemicals," she said.
More than just a promotional event, Indonesia's participation in INNOPROM 2026 is a strategic step to strengthen the competitiveness of the national industry through international partnerships. The cooperation built, whether in the form of investment, technology transfer, or co-manufacturing, is expected to increase the capacity of the national chemical and pharmaceutical industry, create new jobs, and simultaneously strengthen the resilience of Indonesia's industry against future global challenges.
